The East Asia Liver Alliance (EALA)
is an academic collaborative alliance jointly established by the Korean Association for the Study of the Liver (KASL), the Japan Society of Hepatology (JSH) , and the Taiwan Association for the Study of the Liver (TASL). EALA was founded in recognition of the shared challenges posed by liver diseases in East Asia and the need for a coordinated regional response through scientific collaboration and knowledge exchange.
Purpose and Foundation

The purpose of EALA is to promote a structured and sustainable framework for cooperation among leading hepatology societies in East Asia. By bringing together expertise from Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, EALA aims to advance research, education, and clinical practice in hepatology while fostering mutual understanding and long-term academic partnership across the region.
Collaborative Activities and Academic Exchange

EALA facilitates joint academic initiatives designed to strengthen regional collaboration and scientific impact. These activities include annual joint symposia, collaborative research endeavors, and educational programs that encourage active participation from clinicians and researchers across East Asia. Through these shared efforts, EALA promotes the dissemination of up-to-date scientific knowledge and supports the development of innovative approaches to liver disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Vision for the Future

EALA envisions becoming a leading regional platform that connects hepatology experts, nurtures future leaders in liver research, and contributes to global advancements in the field. By fostering cross-border collaboration and emphasizing academic excellence, EALA seeks to enhance the collective capacity of East Asia to address liver diseases and to improve health outcomes for patients both within the region and worldwide.
